Frequently Asked Questions

Is Single Story, Inc. (SSI) a recruitment agency?

Partially. While recruitment is one of the tools we use to help integrate diversity in our organizations, it’s important to realize the uniqueness of our approach.  We feel that it is irresponsible to our candidates and a disservice to our organizations to stop at the recruitment phase. Therefore, SSI takes the process a leap further by assisting our organizations in the implementation of sustainable processes and procedures that engender a culturally sensitive and welcoming environment in which diverse professionals may thrive.  Furthermore, we prepare our candidates prior to placement and engage them throughout their professional careers with the training and information necessary for fruitful retention.

Will I lose control of my organization by working with SSI and engaging in diversity work?

No. SSI has created a unique consulting approach that helps its organizations do the following: locate great racially diverse candidates, help all constituents to feel supported, important, and included throughout the process of diversity integration. The result is generally a stronger, more dynamic and unified faculty, staff, and administrative experience of belonging. The process allows the entire team to recalibrate and focus on the organization's mission and purpose. While SSI can make no promises, most organizations are positively impacted by the SSI diversity integration process. And SSI is there to help on every step of the journey.

Who services my school or organization?

SSI will provide each organization with trained and skilled diversity practitioner(s) that are capable of addressing all diversity-related issues. We also specialize in setting up preventative measures designed alongside the organization's administrative team.

Does SSI work with schools ONLY?

No. SSI specializes in designing preventative systems and structures that help all constituents of an organization to feel supported, important, and included throughout the process of diversity integration. The result is generally a stronger, more dynamic and unified staff and administrative experience of belonging. The process allows the entire team to recalibrate and focus on the organization's mission and purpose.

Does SSI professional development focus only on race or does it address other systems of oppression as well?

SSI has dynamic and customizable professional development opportunities that address all systems of oppression, including race, gender, gender and sexual identity, class, religion, learning differences, ableism, ageism, language, immigration, to name a few.
